Popcorn is Popp'n

Our awesome popcorn team asked me to remind everyone that we are just about to the end of the sale.  There is still time to sell any popcorn you have on-hand, and you can still take orders at those family gatherings this weekend.
 
They also tell me that we are very close to beating last years sales.  We need everyone to help push us over the top and have our best sale ever!  Remember - popcorn sales are what pay for all of the Troop camping gear, help reduce the cost of "big" campouts and pay for things like pizza parties.

And speaking of pizza - we are on track to have ZERO RETURNS.  And that means pizza for everyone who sold popcorn!

Climb Iowa lock in

There are still lots of spots available for the Climb Iowa overnight trip on December 11th.  We can not make the reservation until we have 20 people signed up and paid.

Merit Badge Workshop

Regisration for the Marion Merit Badge Workshop is now open.

     Cost: $10

Sessions fill up quickly so get your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices to Mark ASAP.  Absolute registration deadline is 30-Oct but dont wait, there won't be space available.

Climb Iowa deadline

The December 2011 outing is scheduled to be at the Climb Iowa indoor rock climbing gym on the west side of Des Moines. 

Date: Dec 10-11, 2011
Cost: $25 per person plus meals. 
Sign up: We need 20 people paid to make the reservation. 
Deadline: Sign up deadline is Monday 19-Sept.

Court of Honor - rescheduled

The July 2011 Court of Honor potluck has been rescheduled for Monday 1-August at 6:30pm.

Bring the whole family to see what the Scouts have been up to, enjoy good food and fellowship.

Please bring a hot dish and a cold dish to share. Bring table service for your selves and drinks if you want something other than bug juice.

Izaak Walton work day

The Red Cedar chapter of Izaak Walton provides support to Boy Scout Troop 47, including allowing the use of their chapter house and grounds for our meetings.

Like all of the Vinton area, the Ikes grounds sustained a lot of damage in the July 11th wind storm. Ikes leadership has scheduled a work day to clean up the storm damage and has asked Troop 47 to help.

Date: Saturday 6-August-2011
Time: 8am - 10am
Place: Izaak Walton chapter house, 2 miles north of Vinton on highway 150
Bring: Work gloves, bow saws and other tools to clean up brush -
NO OPEN TOED SHOES!
Service to others is a big part of Scouting.  This is an opportunity for us to give back to the community that supports us so lets have a good turn out.

Next Philmont crew meeting is Sunday July 10, 7pm at Wesley UMC.  Parents will work on fundraising plans.  Scouts will work on team building and crew development.

Philmont parents meeting






Reminder of the Philmont Parents Meeting this Sunday:

It is very important that Scouts signed up for the Philmont trip and their parent(s) attend this meeting. We will discuss travel arrangements, trip cancellation insurance, trip cost, fund raising, medical requirements and conditioning. We will also be setting dates for the training hikes so please bring your calendars.

This is the only meeting we are planning specifically for parents and the only meeting where we will discuss this information. Please make every effort to attend.

Place your order by Monday 30-May to ensure you have the items for summer camp.

Remember Monday the 30th is Memorial Day so no Troop meeting. You will have to get ahold of Jay at home with your order.

Drug Awareness Program - May 9th

Second Class rank requirment 9a:

"Participate in a school, community, or troop program on the dangers of using drugs, alcohol, and tobacco ..."

Scouts that need to fulfill this requirement should be sure to attend the May 9th Troop meeting for a guest speaker.

The rescheduled Eagle Cave trip is this weekend. Meet at Farmers Savings Bank at 7:0am on Saturday April 9th. Dont be late!

Bring extra cloths, you will get wet and muddy.
Bring a flash light or head lamp.

4/3/2011 - Highway Cleanup

Spring highway cleanup: 2pm Sunday, April 3rd.

Meet at the boat ramp parking lot, the first left across the bridge north of town on Hwy 150.

Uniform not necessary, bring work gloves. Clean up usually takes about 2 hours. The Troop Committee treats for pizza afterward.

3/14/2011 - Medical Form update

Updated medical forms are needed before the next campout. 

Remember, we need up-to-date medical forms Part A and Part B for all participants.  These parts are completed by the Scouts parent/guardian or by the adult leader.  Part C is completed by a medical professional.  Part C is not needed at this time but will be required for everyone attending summer camp or high adventure.  Part D is information for the medical professional and does not apply to us this year.

3/6/2011 - Eagle Cave trip rescheduled

The December 2010 trip to Eagle Cave has been rescheduled for April 9th 2011.

Please understand that Eagle Cave does not issue refunds. If your Scout is unable to attend on April 9th, and he is unable to find another Scout to go in his place, he will forfeit the cost of the trip.

2/18/2011 - Boundary Waters Update

Permits have been confirmed for the 2011 Boundary Waters / Quetico trip.  There are still several spots available, get your deposit turned in ASAP.  We will start planning menus and choosing lakes in the next month or so.

Remember:
    * Scouts must be First Class rank and must have earned the Swimming merit badge
    * Everyone will need a physical and must meet the BSA height/weight restrictions

2/18/2011 - Philmont Update

"Thank you" to everyone who turned in a Philmont deposit this week. We have ten spots committed and have just two youth spots left.  If you have any interest in going to Philmont, get your deposit turned in ASAP. We will have our first crew meeting in the next couple of weeks and lay out a schedule for future crew meetings and shake-down hikes.

Remember:
    * Scouts must be 14 years old and First Class rank by the date we leave.
    * Everyone will need a physical and must meet the BSA height/weight restrictions
    * Financial assistance is available

Court of Honor - Jan 24th, 2011

Pot luck dinner, please bring a hot dish and a cold dish to share, drinks and table service for your family.  Dinner will begin at 6:30 followed by presentations, awards and announcements. We are usually done by  about 8:30 or so.
