Little Viking Wrestling Tournament

Helping others is a big part of being a Boy Scout and a good member of our community.

Troop 47 does several service projects throughout the year that Scouts are asked to help with.  The Little Viking Wrestling Tournament is one of the most important because it helps our sponsor - the Vinton Lions Club.  The Lions Club provides financial support to the Troop that helps keep costs low for the families of our Scouts.

Please come out to help clean up after the tournament.  With a good turnout, it only takes an hour or so.  Sometimes they even have left over pizza that needs to be eaten!

Date: Sunday, January 13th, 2013
Time: 3:30p - approximately 5:00p
Location: VSHS gym

Popcorn sale nearing the end

Reminder that the popcorn sale ends next week.

Be sure to bring all popcorn you have not sold and all money you have collected to the Troop meeting on Monday November 26th.

And remember - you can only return up to 5% of the popcorn you have checked out so make one final sales push this weekend as you visit with friends and family.

Tis the season - for new camping gear?

As the gift-giving season approaches, maybe your Scout could use some new rain gear or a new sleeping bag.  There are lots of places to get good quality camping gear at reasonable prices.  Just ask any of the adult leaders for suggestions.

This morning I received the "Holiday Sale" flier for Alps Mountaineering.  Alps has good quality gear and the steep discounts through their Scout Direct program.  You can see their gear at their main web site.  You can see their Scout Direct prices at the Scout Direct web site.  Contact Jay with questions about using the Scout Direct program.

Annual Planning

It is time once again for Annual Planning.  This is when the Scouts plan the date and location of campouts for 2013.

Scouts should bring information for where they would like to go on monthly campouts and the 2013 High Adventure trip.  Remember, we can do just about anything and go just about anywhere if they are willing to put in the work for planning and fundraising.

Annual Planning: Sunday October 28th, 3pm at Jaycee Park (west 4th St, 2 blocks behind Subway).

Fall Highway Cleanup

Highway Cleanup: 3pm Sunday October 21st

Troop 47's fall Highway Cleanup is Sunday, October 21st.  Please meet at the boat ramp (just across the first bridge on Highway 150) at 3pm.  Cleanup usually takes about 2 hours.  Food will be provided when we are done.
